No One Thinks The Same As I Do

November 12, 2008

I love the Chinese dumpling known as Bao, essentially a savory steamed dough stuffed with minced barbecued pork.  I described it as a Pork Donut recently, and was met with skepticism.  Sadly, a googling of the phrase “pork donut” and “bao” next to each other yields only four results on the entire internet, with one of them being from the other time I wrote about Bao on the jonsonblog.

  1. This post included the phrase “pork donut” and the previous one is loaded with testicular/vasectomy references. Not sure why, but I find this both strangely amusing and completely horrifying.

No matter how good Bao is, it is now forever tainted.

  2. A flute without holes, is not a flute. A donut without a hole, is a danish. I suppose a danish with a pork filling is bao.

  3. Well, at least Wikipedia has been appropriately updated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baozi
